Salpausselkä Games to be held in Lahti next year in mid-February
The Salpausselkä Games are scheduled to take place in Lahti from February 11 to 14 next year, according to the international skiing federation's confirmed event calendar for 2027.
The Salpausselkä Games will be held in Lahti from February 11 to 14, 2024, as confirmed by the International Ski Federation's 2027 event calendar. This year, the Games attracted about 69,000 visitors, significantly more than the previous year, thanks in part to sunny and warm weather. The event timing is seen by organizers as advantageous, serving as a preliminary showcase for athletes and spectators ahead of the World Championships in Falun, Sweden.
Tomi-Pekka Kolu, the event's secretary general, has stated that mid-February is a familiar and traditional timing for the Salpausselkä Games, which have sometimes been held later in March or even earlier in January in previous years. He believes that the scheduling is suitable for both the organizers and the participants, noting that weather conditions can vary. However, he emphasizes that the earlier dates should not pose a problem.
The added interest in the Games is anticipated to boost local tourism and engagement, making the event not just a sports competition but also a community gathering point. Organizers are optimistic that the increased attendance this year can be replicated and improved upon, benefitting the region while showcasing Lahti's capabilities in hosting major international winter sports events.
