The price of aviation fuel has soared, and it may reduce state-funded regional flights
The price of aviation fuel has surged by nearly 60% in one week, raising concerns about potential cuts to state-funded regional flights in Finland.
The significant spike in aviation fuel prices, which has risen by nearly 60% in just one week according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), poses challenges for regional flight funding in Finland. Over the past year, the fuel prices have soared by approximately 80%. This drastic increase has caught the attention of Traficom, Finland's Transport and Communications Agency, which warns that if high fuel prices persist, the allocated budget for regional flights may be insufficient. Traficomโs development director, Pipsa Eklund, noted that the government might need to either reduce the number of flights or seek additional funding to address the situation.
