FBI will establish a permanent presence in Ecuador: Interior Minister explains the scope of international cooperation
The FBI will have a permanent presence in Ecuador to enhance cooperation in combating organized crime, as confirmed by the Interior Minister.
The Interior Minister of Ecuador, John Reimberg, announced that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will establish a permanent presence in the country following the signing of a new cooperation agreement aimed at addressing organized crime. This move signifies a substantial deepening of collaborative efforts between Ecuador and the United States in crime investigations and law enforcement operations.
Reimberg highlighted that while there have been joint initiatives in the past, the direct presence of FBI representatives in Ecuador is expected to notably bolster the investigative capabilities of the National Police. He noted that this collaboration is crucial for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of police operations against organized crime networks that have increasingly impacted the region.
The new agreement will create a specialized team within Ecuador's National Police, ensuring direct communication and collaboration with the FBI. This policy shift reflects a broader trend toward increasing international partnership in law enforcement, aimed at addressing transnational crime more effectively and enhancing security in Ecuador and its surrounding areas.
