IPTU 2027: Four cities in Baixada Santista open requests for exemptions and other benefits
Four cities in the Baixada Santista region of São Paulo have begun processes for exemption and discounts on the Property Tax (IPTU) for 2027.
In the Baixada Santista region of São Paulo, four cities—São Vicente, Praia Grande, Guarujá, and Bertioga—have opened processes for residents to request exemptions and discounts on the Imposto Predial e Territorial Urbano (IPTU) for the year 2027. These benefits are aimed particularly at specific public groups, such as retirees, pensioners, and in some cases, war veterans. This initiative is designed to alleviate financial burdens on vulnerable populations within these municipalities.
São Vicente has already kicked off the application period for discounts, which started on February 2nd and will run until the last business day of July. To qualify for the exemption, applicants must have an income exclusively from INSS benefits, capped at three national minimum wages. This income requirement helps ensure that the aid is directed toward those who genuinely need financial support.
While the cities of Santos, Mongaguá, Peruíbe, and Itanhaém have yet to begin their processes for exemptions, they have announced expected timelines for when their respective programs will start. However, the municipality of Cubatão has not provided any information on this matter to the G1 news outlet, highlighting a potential gap in communication and accessibility for citizens seeking financial relief from property taxes.
