Fire in Ananindeua: Cell Phone Charging Short Circuit Caused the Fire, Says Resident

A fire in a house in Ananindeua was caused by a short circuit from a charging cell phone, but no injuries were reported.

A house in the Uirapuru neighborhood of Icuí, in Ananindeua, Brazil, caught fire on Wednesday, and fortunately, no injuries occurred. The homeowner, Ana Claudia Vergolino de La Rockue, a 45-year-old occupational therapist, was taking a shower when she noticed the flames. She believes the fire was ignited due to a short circuit from a cell phone that was charging in one of the bedrooms of the residence, which led to thick smoke that could be seen from a distance.

Ana Claudia reported that the sound of a popping noise made her think something happened outside, but it turned out to be the cause of the fire within her home. The flames quickly consumed the mattress, some clothing, and part of the interior ceiling of the house. Neighbors came to help combat the flames before they were ultimately controlled. Ana Claudia, who lives alone with four cats, expressed her despair over the losses, saying that she lost the roof, the ceiling, and her bed, and was unsure of where to go next.

Having purchased the house only three years earlier, Ana Claudia now faces the daunting task of recovery after her home was severely damaged. Her situation highlights the potential risks associated with electronic devices, particularly when left unattended while charging, and raises awareness about fire safety measures that can be essential in preventing such incidents.
