Ukrainians to help Germany prepare for war with Russia โ Reuters
Ukrainian military instructors will train Germany's army to bolster defenses against a potential Russian assault by 2029, amid ongoing tensions between Russia and NATO.
The head of the German army, Lieutenant General Christian Freuding, announced plans for Ukrainian military instructors to assist in training Germany's forces in preparation for a potential Russian attack by 2029. This collaboration is part of Germany's broader strategy to strengthen its defense capabilities in light of increased tensions in Eastern Europe. Moscow has dismissed these concerns as unfounded, labeling the narrative of an impending assault as 'nonsense.'
As part of this agreement, which was established in February, Ukraine will send several dozen military trainers to German military schools. These trainers will bring precious battlefield experience from their ongoing conflict with Russian forces, focusing on key areas such as artillery, engineering, drone warfare, and command-and-control systems. This signifies a pivotal shift in roles, flipping the long-standing relationship where Western forces predominantly provided training to Ukrainian troops.
Germany's commitment to enhancing its military readiness, along with its substantial support for Ukraine, indicates a concerted effort to prepare for potential escalations in military confrontations in Europe. Since 2022, Germany has trained over 25,000 Ukrainian soldiers and has allocated billions in military aid, affirming its position as a critical ally for Ukraine in the ongoing conflict against Russia.
