Good news for New Mexico: economic expansion in the state accelerates with the Site Readiness program

New Mexico's economic expansion is being expedited through the Site Readiness program aimed at modernizing infrastructure and attracting high-impact projects.

The New Mexico government, under Governor Michelle Luján Grisham's commitment to modernizing the state's infrastructure and diversifying its economy, is accelerating economic expansion with a specific program sanctioned in 2025. The Site Readiness Act, supported by bills SB 169 and SB 170, has enabled the Economic Development Department (EDD) to assess 47 sites across the state ranging from industrial lands to areas with logistical and commercial potential. This initiative represents a strategic effort to bolster the state's economic landscape.

This evaluation process has been conducted in collaboration with Global Location Strategies (GLS), a specialized organization in location analysis, alongside local governments and Indigenous communities to identify both the strengths and challenges of these sites, as well as infrastructure needs. The collaboration seeks to ensure that developments are inclusive and tailored to the specific requirements of each community, addressing both economic growth and local interests.

Less than a year after the start of these assessments, the Economic Development Department announced the first five locations that meet the necessary criteria for economic development. This move is expected to attract investments significantly and create job opportunities throughout New Mexico, signaling a positive shift in the state's economic trajectory and providing hope for enhanced infrastructure and regional growth.
