Finnish girl, 11, rescued from Thailand โ Police investigate
An 11-year-old Finnish girl who was allegedly tortured in Thailand has been brought back to Finland, and local police have launched an investigation into the case.
An 11-year-old Finnish girl was recently rescued from Thailand where she was allegedly subjected to torture. Finnish authorities, specifically the Central Finland Police, have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the girl's return. They aim to determine whether she was mistreated or neglected during her time in Thailand. This case has garnered significant media attention due to its disturbing nature and the history involving the girl's father, who had previously been suspected of child abuse in Finland.
According to reports, the girl's father was previously investigated for child abuse in Finland back in 2019; however, the prosecutor decided not to press charges due to insufficient evidence. Following this, the family relocated to Thailand, where they lived for several years, reportedly exceeding the allowed duration of their residence permit. Recently, local media suggested that authorities in Thailand were investigating the parents for potentially keeping the girl against her will and subjecting her to torture. It was noted that the girl herself reached out to the authorities, indicating she required help.
The girl was rescued from a remote village in the Watthana Nakhon district on January 22, highlighting the severe conditions she faced while in Thailand. This incident raises serious concerns regarding child protection and the responsibilities of both Finnish and Thai authorities in safeguarding children's well-being. The ongoing police investigation will delve deeper into the girl's treatment and the involvement of her parents, as well as the previous allegations against her father in Finland, which could have implications for family safety and the legal framework surrounding child welfare.
