Cardinal Krajewski is the new Metropolitan of Łódź. This is the decision of Leo XIV

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski has been appointed the new Metropolitan of Łódź, succeeding Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś.

Cardinal Konrad Krajewski, who has served as the papal almoner since 2013, has been appointed as the Metropolitan of Łódź as per the decision of Pope Leo XIV. Krajewski is originally from the Łódź archdiocese but moved to the Vatican in 1998 where he has held various positions including that of papal ceremonialist. His arrival in Łódź comes as Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś transitions to the Krakow metropolitan position, which he assumed in December of the previous year.

In addition to his role as Metropolitan, Cardinal Krajewski oversees the Dicastery for the Service of Charity, reflecting his commitment to social justice and support for those in need. He was elevated to the rank of cardinal in 2018 and is known for his pastoral work that focuses on aiding the poor and refugees. Recently, he was mentioned as a potential candidate for the Krakow metropolitan position, highlighting his influence within the Church.

Krajewski has gained recognition for his unique charitable initiatives, having established various services for the homeless, including a bathhouse, a barbershop, and a clinic located under the colonnades of St. Peter's Square in the Vatican. His proactive approach to charity extends beyond the Vatican, reaching out to the homeless in Rome's train stations and exemplifying his dedication to those in need.
