Earthquake now 4.8 Richter between Karditsa and Evrytania
An earthquake measuring 4.8 on the Richter scale occurred between Karditsa and Evrytania in Greece.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 struck the region between Karditsa and Evrytania in Greece, according to the Geodynamic Institute of the National Observatory of Athens. The earthquake's epicenter was identified 11 kilometers northeast of Rapidopoulos in Evrytania, with a focal depth calculated at 13.7 kilometers. Professor Efthymios Lekkas noted that the tremor was near Stefanias and was felt across a wider area.
The Geological Institute has attributed the prolonged duration of the tremor to the tectonic activity prevalent in this region. Residents in surrounding areas reported feeling the seismic event, indicating a significant impact on local populations. Seismic studies suggest that while this earthquake is moderate in magnitude, the geological conditions of the area could lead to larger earthquakes in the future.
Authorities are currently assessing the situation to monitor any potential aftershocks or structural impacts on buildings. Emergency services are on alert as they evaluate the earthquake's effects on infrastructure and local communities, ensuring safety protocols are in place should further seismic activity occur.
