Fire Breaks Out from the Basement of New Shimbashi Building, Wiring in Machine Room Damaged, Reports of Power Outage as Well
A fire in the basement of the New Shimbashi Building in Tokyo resulted in damage to wiring in the machine room, and there were reports of a power outage.
On the evening of October 12, around 6:05 PM, the Tokyo Fire Department received a report of a fire breaking out in the basement of the New Shimbashi Building located in Shimbashi, Minato City. The fire was reportedly extinguished by 6:20 PM, with damage confirmed to the wiring in the basement machine room. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the fire.
When reporters arrived at the scene around 6:45 PM, multiple fire trucks were deployed, and police officers were restricting entry to the building, informing the public that there was a power outage occurring. This incident raised concerns for nearby businesses and the general public who rely on the facilities within the building for dining and other services.
The New Shimbashi Building, which was opened in 1971 as part of a redevelopment project, consists of 11 floors above ground and 4 floors below. Home to several restaurants and shops, it plays an important role in the area's local economy, making the implications of the fire significant for local commerce as well as safety protocols in high-traffic buildings.
