The Eastern Finland Court of Appeal has intensified the punishment for a 39-year-old man who killed his wife, a 36-year-old mother, by raising his sentence to 8 years and 11 months. The court also revealed that the man had assaulted the victim in a horrific manner, highlighting the brutal nature of the crime. Additionally, the court increased the compensation awarded to the couple's children, who were aged 5 and 8 at the time of the crime, mandating their father to pay substantial sums for their suffering.

The crime came to light when the victim's colleagues expressed concern after she failed to show up for work on February 27, 2024. Alarmed by her absence, the police conducted a welfare check and discovered the mother's body in the bedroom of their home in Liperi. It was quickly established that she had fallen victim to a violent crime, having been stabbed once by her husband, who had subsequently taken their children to school and daycare that same morning.
