The disgrace of Joensuu's parade location has been fixed – see what the notoriously infamous apartment buildings look like now
An entrepreneur in Joensuu transformed two uncompleted apartment buildings, left abandoned for two years, into completed units, revitalizing the local area.
In Joensuu, entrepreneur Jarmo Heikkinen took initiative when two unfinished apartment buildings were abandoned due to a construction company's bankruptcy, leaving the city with an unsightly scene for nearly two years. Recognizing the importance of the location along the river Pielisjoki, Heikkinen purchased the buildings and oversaw their completion, reflecting his commitment to the area.
The construction process faced no major surprises, as the concrete structures had to be dried out for several months before work could resume. By the end of January, the buildings were completed, significantly improving the aesthetic and livability of the area. Heikkinen expressed satisfaction with the results, highlighting the responsibility of local professionals in restoring the properties to a suitable condition.
As of now, about half of the 46 apartments have been sold, but interestingly, few potential buyers have inquired about the background of the buildings' troubled past. This might indicate a level of trust from the community in the professionalism of the construction efforts, with people feeling confident that everything is in order under competent management.
