EKPA: The old building of the Municipal Police on Agios Konstantinos is becoming a modern academic space
A former Municipal Police building in central Athens is being transformed into a university facility for the needs of the Economics and Political Science School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
A former Municipal Police building, located at 14 Agios Konstantinos Street in the heart of Athens, is set to undergo a significant transformation as it becomes a new academic facility for the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. With a total funding of 13 million euros from the Public Investment Program of the Ministry of Education, the building has been fully acquired and renovated to meet the long-standing housing needs of two departments within the School of Economics and Political Science. This marks a crucial step in addressing the spatial constraints faced by these departments.
The new facility will house the Department of Business Administration and Organizations as well as the Department of Sociology, both of which had previously been operating in separate locations across Athens, relying on the facilities of other departments. The establishment of a dedicated academic space for these departments is expected to enhance the educational environment and facilitate better coordination and collaboration among students and faculty, which had been limited in their previous setups.
This repurposing of a central public building in Athens signifies a strategic move towards optimizing urban public spaces to cater to educational needs. It not only fulfills the immediate logistical necessities of the affected departments but also reflects a broader commitment by the Ministry of Education to improve infrastructure for higher education, thus enhancing the overall academic landscape of the city.
