Survey: Poles Want Changes in Healthcare, But Don't Want to Pay More for It

A recent survey indicates that a significant majority of Poles believe the healthcare system requires substantial reforms, yet they are unwilling to increase their financial contributions for these changes.

According to a recent survey, a resounding 85.4% of Polish respondents expressed a belief that the current healthcare system is in need of major reforms. Among those surveyed, 52.4% answered 'yes' and 33% replied 'rather yes' when asked if changes were necessary. Conversely, only 8% disagreed, believing that the system either does not require changes or definitely does not need them. This suggests a widespread consensus among the populace that the healthcare model in Poland is perceived as inadequate and in dire need of improvement.

Responses to the question of healthcare reform differed significantly according to the age and residence of respondents. The youngest age group, those under 24, appeared the least convinced of the need for change, with only 70.6% indicating a desire for reform. In stark contrast, residents of small to medium-sized towns exhibited a much stronger demand for reform, with affirmative responses surpassing 90%. Furthermore, among rural residents, this expectation also remained high, indicating that concerns over healthcare quality may be more pressing in less urban areas and that there is a recognized need for improved services and management in these regions.

The survey highlights a general reluctance among Poles to accept higher costs associated with healthcare improvements, pointing to a fundamental contradiction in public opinion. While there is overwhelming support for reform, the unwillingness to pay more raises questions about the sustainability of such changes and how meaningful improvements can be achieved without additional financial input. Policymakers may need to address these concerns directly to align public willingness with the necessary investments required to initiate meaningful reform in the Polish healthcare landscape.
