Ryanair is angry: cancels one route from Vilnius
Ryanair has announced the cancellation of a flight route from Vilnius due to rising airport access costs, which hinder the country’s tourism and economic potential.
Ryanair has decided to discontinue one of its flight routes from Vilnius, particularly to Stockholm, citing increased airport access costs as the primary reason for this decision. The airline indicates that these costs are impeding recovery and restricting connectivity, ultimately limiting Lithuania's ability to fully harness its tourism, job creation, and economic growth potential.
Despite the overall number of passengers remaining unchanged, Ryanair plans to redistribute these travelers to cheaper, rapidly growing markets in other Central and Eastern European countries by summer 2026. Furthermore, the airline has also reduced the frequency of flights on some other routes, including a decrease of two flights per week to Dublin and Vienna, signaling a broader adjustment in its operational strategy.
Ryanair has expressed concerns about the continuing implications for Lithuania if the government does not take urgent action to lower access costs. The warning suggests that without intervention, Lithuania may continue to experience declining routes and a potentially detrimental impact on both its tourism sector and overall economic health.
