Haeundae District Lowers Barriers for Workation... Open to Job Seekers and Employees' Families

Haeundae District in Busan is relaxing its eligibility requirements for workation programs to attract those looking to balance work and relaxation.

Haeundae District in Busan is actively working to attract individuals seeking to blend work with leisure through its workation programs by easing eligibility criteria. As of December 12, the district announced that job seekers can now utilize workation facilities, and employees residing outside Busan can also take advantage of these programs with their families. The workation initiative was launched in May 2024 and allows participants to work or attend meetings with ocean views, along with the opportunity to engage in hobbies and self-development programs, all at no cost.

The workation program provides financial support for lodging and offers various discounts to enhance the experience. Those utilizing designated accommodations can receive discounts on their stays, and vouchers are available for dining and other local services. Notably, job seekers can use the facilities for free, although they do not qualify for accommodation reimbursement. By giving free access to the centers for local employees starting this year and further opening participation to job seekers, Haeundae aims to attract a higher number of visitors from other regions and stimulate the local economy.

The growing popularity of the Haeundae workation is reflected in the increasing participation rates. Last year, 718 employees from 267 companies engaged in the program, marking nearly a 3.3-fold increase in user numbers compared to the start of 2024. Economic contributions from workation visitors have been notable, with spending reported at approximately 265 million KRW by a surveyed group of 364 visitors utilizing the program. The strategic implementation of these workation facilities aligns with local government efforts to bolster the regional economy by increasing the resident and visitor population in areas like Haeundae, thus promoting sustainable tourism and economic vitality.
