Zelenskyy's office on Hungarian delegation's visit: Perhaps Hungarians have forgotten what bilateral relations are

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy's office responds to Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó's accusations regarding a recent delegation visit.

Dmytro Lytvyn, an adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has addressed comments made by Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, who accused Zelenskyy of being dishonest about the awareness of a Hungarian delegation's visit to Ukraine. Szijjártó claimed that the Ukrainian leader was lying when stating he was unaware of the delegation's schedule. This public exchange highlights the ongoing tensions in diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Hungary.

The conflict arose after Szijjártó shared a communication from the Hungarian embassy in Ukraine addressing the expected arrival of the delegation in Kyiv. He emphasized that the embassy had requested assistance from Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry to organize a meeting with Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine's First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy. This situation has exacerbated existing friction in the bilateral ties, as both sides appear to be interpreting diplomatic protocols differently.

In response, Lytvyn suggested that Hungarian officials might have forgotten the fundamental principles of bilateral engagements which are typically grounded in mutual agreement and understanding. This incident underscores the volatility in Ukraine-Hungary relations, particularly amidst the broader geopolitical context that sees both nations navigating complex interactions in light of European politics and regional security.
