Germany Overtakes China in This Export Sector
A recent report indicates that Germany has surpassed China in conventional arms exports during the 2021-2025 period.
A recent annual report highlights key developments in global conventional arms transfers between 2021 and 2025, revealing that Germany has overtaken China in total export volume. This shift reflects changing demand patterns following recent conflicts and evolving global procurement trends, significantly influenced by increasing European defense expenditures, military aid to Ukraine, and declining Russian exports over the five-year reporting period. According to an analysis by SIPRI, the five largest conventional arms exporters during this timeframe are the United States, France, Russia, Germany, and China. Together, these countries account for approximately 70% of total global arms exports. The findings point to a reconfiguration in the international arms market as nations respond to geopolitical dynamics and security needs. The report further emphasizes that the United States has maintained a significant lead in the international arms market, comprising 42% of global arms exports in the reporting period, showcasing a robust defense industry and strategic engagement in global security initiatives. This realignment in arms exports has substantial implications for global security and defense cooperation.
