The Academy of Athens celebrates a century of existence
The Academy of Athens will hold a public celebratory session on March 18, 2026, to commemorate its centennial, featuring speeches from notable dignitaries.
On March 18, 2026, at 19:00, the Academy of Athens will host a Public Celebratory Session to mark the 100th anniversary of its establishment. The event will take place in the ceremonial hall of the Academy's headquarters. This significant gathering will be attended by esteemed personalities, including the President of the Republic, Mr. Konstantinos An. Tasoulas, and the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports, Ms. Sofia Zacharaki, who will deliver opening remarks.
The session will also feature a key address from the President of the Academy, Mr. Nikiforos Diamantouros, discussing the theme: "A hundred years of the Academy: From history to the future. Historical continuity and a center of values in dialogue with society." Additionally, the Secretary-General of the Academy, Mr. Antonios Regakos, will present a talk titled "The last refuge of science and the most independent institution of the state," reflecting contemporary ideas relevant to the Academy today.
Following the speeches, the Academy will award the 2026 Prize of Letters and Fine Arts to composer Mr. Stavros Xarchakos, along with the National Rebirth Award, further recognizing contributions to the arts and culture in Greece.
