KRRiT's statement regarding the application from TV Republika. "The decision has market justification"
KRRiT has suspended proceedings related to MUX-8 at the request of TV Republika, citing a lack of market interest from other broadcasters.
The National Radio and Television Council (KRRiT) has issued a statement concerning the multiplex MUX-8, indicating that the proceedings have been suspended at the request of the only participant in the competition, TV Republika S.A. This action pertains to a new channel proposed by the station, named Republika 2. The KRRiT clarified that the Code of Administrative Procedure allows for such a suspension when only one applicant is involved, thus validating their decision under the current regulatory framework.
KRRiT further explained that their decision is supported by market justifications, highlighting that the MUX-8 multiplex has not attracted interest from broadcasters in recent times. The council noted that two broadcasters had recently opted not to renew their licenses and that for the upcoming competition slated to end in November 2025, no other broadcasters have submitted applications. By suspending the proceedings, KRRiT aims to keep the application legally active, allowing for potential future considerations.
This move by KRRiT has significant implications for the broadcast landscape in Poland, as it reflects the ongoing challenges in attracting broadcasters to the multiplex. It underscores the shifting dynamics of media consumption and regulatory challenges in a rapidly changing television environment, and signals a possible consolidation in the market as fewer players vie for space on MUX-8, potentially limiting diversity in programming in the future.
