Police investigate deaths of men after consuming alcoholic beverage in Bahia
The Civil Police of Bahia is investigating the deaths of two men in Belmonte following the consumption of alcoholic beverages.
The Civil Police of Bahia (PC-BA) is conducting an investigation into the deaths of two men in a rural area of Belmonte, a city in southern Bahia, after they consumed alcoholic beverages. The victims have been identified as 52-year-old Evanildo Oliveira da Silva and 28-year-old Pedro Renato de Jesus Rodrigues. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday (October 10), with one of the victims reportedly feeling unwell after drinking a herbal tea just prior to his death, but did not survive the night.
According to police reports, investigators found soda bottles with an alcohol smell and traces of alcohol at a bar adjacent to the home where the two men were consuming drinks. In addition, similar containers filled with gasoline were discovered at the same establishment. These findings led the police to collect the bottles and their contents for forensic analysis. As a precaution, the sale of beverages at the bar has been temporarily banned pending the results of the investigation, while local residents have been advised against consuming distilled drinks within the community.
The investigation raises concerns about the safety of alcoholic beverages in the area, especially considering the discovery of gasoline which suggests a potential health risk. The police have not yet provided details about the funerals of the deceased men, focusing instead on determining the cause of their deaths and the circumstances surrounding the consumption of these beverages. The situation highlights the need for regulatory measures in the alcoholic beverage industry to ensure public safety and avoid similar tragedies in the future.
