Song Eon-seok: Let's Process the Integrated Law for Daegu and Gyeongbuk, Along with Four Special Laws for Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and Busan
Song Eon-seok, the leader of the People's Power party, has proposed the immediate processing of the Daegu and Gyeongbuk administrative integration law and four special laws related to Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and Busan during the upcoming March National Assembly session.
On the 12th, Song Eon-seok, the floor leader of the People's Power party in South Korea, urged the Democratic Party to expedite the processing of the administrative integration law for Daegu and Gyeongbuk, as well as four special laws related to Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and Busan during the March National Assembly session. At a Supreme Council meeting, Song expressed the Party's intention to present three proposals to the Democratic Party concerning administrative integration and regional balanced development. He specifically called for immediate action on the Daegu and Gyeongbuk administrative integration law, emphasizing that it is imperative to act swiftly on the four special legislation proposals to ensure equitable development across various regions.
In detailing his proposals, Song highlighted the need for revisions to the special laws for Gangwon, Jeonbuk, and Jeju, as well as the establishment of a special law for Busan aimed at transforming it into a global hub city. He suggested that there should be no discrepancies in the treatment of regions, especially those that will undergo administrative integration. He reassured listeners that the goal of his Party's proposals is to meet the wishes of local residents, criticizing any division among regions and insisting that disparities in government support based on the timing of the integration law's passage must be avoided.
Furthermore, Song emphasized the necessity of forming a Temporary Committee for Administrative Reorganization in the National Assembly to comprehensively discuss integration efforts in various regions, including Daejeon and Chungnam, among others. He urged that areas like Gangwon, Jeonbuk, Jeju, and Chungbuk, where administrative integration might not be possible, must not be neglected or discriminated against in receiving government support. He strongly called for the establishment of measures from the government that would affirm equal support for all regions, akin to what is afforded to Jeonnam and Gwangju special cities.
