With 46 observers, the selection of the president of the Judiciary Council to replace Mario Godoy will begin

The selection process for a new president of the Judiciary Council in Ecuador, replacing Mario Godoy, will start with the oversight of 46 observers and a technical support team.

The process of selecting a new main and substitute member to preside over Ecuador's Judiciary Council (CJ) is set to commence, supported by a citizen oversight group made up of 46 members. This action follows the proposal sent by Marco Rodríguez, the president of the National Court of Justice (CNJ). The initiative aims to ensure transparency throughout the selection process, which was authorized by the Citizen Participation and Social Control Council (CPCCS). During a session on March 11, 2026, the CPCCS approved the admissibility report for the members of the citizen oversight group. Out of 47 individuals who expressed interest, 46 were deemed eligible. These members are scheduled for a training session within the next five days to prepare for their roles.

Additionally, the CPCCS has formed a technical support team consisting of seven trusted advisors, tasked with verifying compliance with the requirements and disqualifications of the candidates for the CJ presidency. This measure is particularly significant as it underscores the CPCCS's commitment to maintaining integrity in the recruitment process. As the Judiciary Council undergoes renewal, the appointment of a new president is pivotal, especially given the current political landscape and the implications it holds for justice and governance in Ecuador.
