Railway: Two trains collide in Bayreuth - several injured
Two regional trains collided at the main station in Bayreuth, injuring eight people, one severely.
In Bayreuth, Germany, a collision between two regional trains at the main station resulted in eight injuries, with one individual reported to be in serious condition. According to a spokesperson from the federal police, the severely injured man was transported to a hospital. The incident led to the complete closure of the station, affecting approximately 100 to 150 passengers who were stranded as a result. The involved train operators, Agilis and Deutsche Bahn, organized replacement bus services to assist stranded passengers. Numerous emergency responders were deployed to the scene, including federal and state police, medical personnel, firefighters, and the Technical Relief Organization. The police are currently investigating the incident to determine whether the driver of one train overlooked the incoming train during a shunting operation. Initial reports indicate that the trains were both Agilis services. One train was carrying a driver and 13 passengers as it was entering the station, while the other train was undertaking a shunting maneuver without passengers on board, likely for refueling purposes. All passengers and train personnel were assessed by emergency responders, who indicated that, alongside the seriously injured individual, four other people sustained minor injuries in the incident, prompting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision.
