OAB questions Ibaneis about green area included in financial aid to BRB and says it may take the matter to court

The Brazilian Bar Association in the Federal District has raised concerns about a green area included in a financial rescue package for the Bank of Brasília, threatening legal action if their questions are not addressed.

The Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) in the Federal District has officially questioned the governor, Ibaneis Rocha, regarding the decision to include a section of the Serrinha do Paranoá in the financial assistance package for the Bank of Brasília (BRB). In their correspondence, the OAB has requested that within five days, the governor provide detailed studies and technical-legal opinions that clarify the status of the area, which is significant both environmentally and legally. If the responses are unsatisfactory, the OAB suggests they may pursue the matter through the judicial system.

The area in question spans approximately 716 hectares and has been valued at around R$ 2.2 billion. However, preliminary analyses conducted by the OAB have revealed numerous legal, environmental, and urban planning issues associated with this parcel of land. These issues are reportedly serious enough to undermine the concept of treating the Serrinha do Paranoá as a viable real estate asset, as it is currently under scrutiny due to various legal obligations and violations.

Among the identified issues are the lack of an updated environmental impact study and outstanding licensing requirements with the Brasília Environmental Institute. The implications of these findings are vast, as they raise questions about the feasibility and legality of proposing the land as a financial asset, and they underline the ongoing tension between economic development and environmental protection in Brasília.
