Boulos' allied deputy summoned to testify at MP-SP about invasion of bank on Faria Lima
State deputy Ediane Maria has been summoned to testify regarding an investigation into the invasion of an Itaú BBA bank during a protest last year.
State deputy Ediane Maria, affiliated with PSOL, has been summoned to the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) for questioning related to the invasion of the Itaú BBA investment bank that took place in July of the previous year. This incident occurred during a protest in Faria Lima, a major financial district in São Paulo. The inquiry was initiated by promoter Cassio Conserino following a complaint from deputy Tomé Abduch of the Republican party, who is a political opponent of Ediane.
Ediane holds a significant position in the MTST (Movement of Homeless Workers) and is allied with Minister Guilherme Boulos, who heads the Secretariat for the Presidency. The political tensions surrounding this case have heightened as Abduch alleges that a lawyer from Ediane's office participated in media interviews as a representative of the group involved in the protest. Moreover, he claims that the planning for the bank invasion happened during parliamentary working hours, raising questions about the conduct of public officials.
In response to the summons, Ediane has stated that she was not properly notified and is pursuing legal measures regarding the investigation. This case underscores ongoing political disputes in Brazil, particularly concerning the actions of leftist movements and their leaders, and reflects significant societal tensions over protests related to social issues, such as housing and economic inequality.
