Sudan: 17 killed, including students and health workers, in Rapid Support Forces airstrike

Seventeen people, including students and health professionals, were killed in an airstrike by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces in White Nile state.

On Wednesday, the Sudan Doctors Network reported a significant increase in fatalities due to an airstrike by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a secondary school and health center in Shukri village, White Nile state, resulting in 17 confirmed deaths, with several of the victims being students and health staff. In addition to the fatalities, at least 10 others sustained injuries during the attack.

Dr. Mousa al-Majri, the Director of Al-Duaym Hospital, the nearest large medical facility, confirmed the casualties and emphasized that there was no military presence in the village at the time of the strike. Both the Sudan Doctors Network and Dr. al-Majri directly attributed the attack to the RSF, while appealing to international standards of humanitarian law, stating that such assaults on educational and medical facilities violate international humanitarian principles.

The RSF has reportedly intensified its drone attacks in the White Nile state over the past three days, alarming local communities and raising fears over the ongoing conflict in Sudan. The absence of a response from the RSF to the accusations raises further concerns about accountability and the impact of such attacks on the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the region.
