WhatsApp launches feature for parents to limit who can talk to their children

WhatsApp has introduced a new feature allowing parents to manage their children's accounts and control who can communicate with them on the platform.

WhatsApp has begun rolling out a feature that allows parents or guardians to monitor their children's accounts, specifically for users under 13 years old. Announced on November 11, the feature will first be tested with a select group of users in the upcoming weeks. This move is a response to parental feedback expressing the need for more control over their children's online interactions.

To activate the feature, adults must have their phone alongside their child's to link the accounts. Once linked, parents can configure which contacts are allowed to message their children and what groups they can join. Additionally, the app allows parents to review incoming message requests from unknown users, ensuring a higher degree of safety for their kids online.

Privacy settings are further fortified by a unique six-digit code that only parents can change, empowering them to maintain control over their children's account. This new functionality highlights WhatsApp's initiatives to enhance child safety on its platform in light of increasing concerns regarding children's online privacy and interaction with strangers.
