The Piauí Digital Health program, established by the State Health Secretary (Sesapi), has surpassed 1.5 million health service appointments, proving to be a significant innovation in Brazil's Unified Health System (SUS). Among the notable achievements of the program are 347,180 teleconsultations, which include 217,874 sessions with general practitioners and 129,306 sessions with specialized doctors. Additionally, the program has generated 1,153,629 tele-reports that assist public health professionals in evaluating tests and ensuring patients receive appropriate referrals. The program’s reach extends into local education, as it is integrated into 287 schools, allowing students to access medical consultations through a digital platform, thereby promoting health awareness from a young age.
This initiative, launched in 2023, showcases a comprehensive approach to healthcare in the state of Piauí. It highlights the commitment of the state government to utilize technology in public health, thereby improving healthcare outcomes for residents and setting a benchmark for other regions in Brazil. As a result, the Piauí Digital Health program not only contributes to individual health but also enhances the overall public health infrastructure in Brazil, reinforcing the importance of innovation in governmental health policies.
