"Really surprised": they created a system that destroys 99% of weed seeds during harvest and have already set foot in Brazil and Chile

Redekop has developed a new technology that mechanically eliminates up to 99% of weed seeds during the harvesting process, addressing the growing resistance of weeds to herbicides in agriculture, and has begun its introduction in Brazil and Chile.

At Expoagro, Redekop unveiled a revolutionary seed destruction system designed to be mounted on harvesters, capable of destroying 99% of weed seeds. This innovation comes at a critical time as the agricultural sector faces increasing challenges from herbicide-resistant weeds, which have become a significant obstacle to crop production.

Juan Martรญn Giustetti, the director of Redekop, highlighted the growing issue of resistant weed varieties. He emphasized that while herbicides play an essential role in weed management, this new mechanical destruction technology offers a complementary solution by significantly reducing the seed bank in the soil. The implementation of such technology is crucial in ensuring sustainable agricultural practices while minimizing dependency on chemical solutions.

The introduction of this technology in Brazil and Chile signals its potential for widespread adoption throughout Latin America. As farmers grapple with the escalating problem of resistant weeds, systems like Redekop's may provide the necessary tools to enhance crop yields and soil health while combating the increased costs associated with herbicide reliance.
