Driver who left fatally injured girlfriend to die in crash back behind wheel
Nathan Towers, who received a prison sentence for causing the death of his girlfriend in a car crash, has been caught driving again shortly after being released on licence.
Nathan Towers, a 33-year-old man, was involved in a tragic car accident that led to the death of his girlfriend, Jess Waterman, a 20-year-old woman, in February 2022. Following the crash, Towers was not only found guilty of careless driving but also for perverting the course of justice and fraud. He was sentenced to four years and three months in prison in June 2023, serving time for his actions that resulted in the loss of life and the emotional devastation of Waterman’s family.
Despite his serious offenses, Towers was released on licence and was recently apprehended driving on the A127 in Southend, completely disregarding his disqualification. This incident occurred just a few months after his release, raising serious concerns about the effectiveness of monitoring individuals who have committed severe driving offenses. The court has responded to his reckless behavior by imposing another six-month prison sentence, highlighting the ongoing issues surrounding road safety and the judicial system’s handling of repeat offenders.
The case has not only brought attention to the dangers of irresponsible driving but has also sparked a conversation about how the legal system deals with offenders who pose a risk to public safety. The tragic loss of Jess Waterman, described by her family as a "beautiful, vibrant, and caring young woman", continues to resonate with the community, emphasizing the far-reaching effects of such acts of negligence on friends and family members left behind.
