In a tragic incident in East Godavari district, Andhra Pradesh, 12 individuals have lost their lives after consuming suspected adulterated milk. Reports indicate that several elderly persons exhibited severe symptoms such as anuria, vomiting, abdominal pain, and significant kidney failure, which required dialysis for some patients. The first cluster of cases emerged on February 22, with affected individuals primarily residing in the localities of Chaudeshwar Nagar and Swarup Nagar in the Lalacheruvu area.

The health department pointed out that there is strong epidemiological evidence suggesting that milk adulteration could be the cause behind this unfortunate event. As a proactive measure, departments have initiated coordinated actions to investigate the contamination and ensure public safety. The presence of elevated urea and serum creatinine levels in the patients indicates significant renal impairment, further corroborating the severity of the crisis.
