Kyiv: Ukrainian anti-drone teams are already working in Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia
Ukrainian anti-drone teams are assisting Gulf states in countering Iranian drones similar to those used by Russia in Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced that Ukrainian anti-drone teams have been deployed to Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia to assist these countries in countering threats posed by Iranian-made 'Shahed' drones, which are being utilized by Russia against Ukraine. The objective is to leverage Ukraine's experience in downing Russian drones and provide support to Gulf states experiencing similar attacks.
Three specialized teams consisting of experts, military personnel, and engineers have already begun their work in the Gulf region, as confirmed by Zelensky and a spokesperson. The collaboration represents a significant international engagement for Ukraine, reflecting the urgency of rising drone warfare in the region, particularly from Iranian technology that poses a direct threat to the Gulf states.
In their operations, Ukrainian forces are combining inexpensive drone interceptors, electronic jamming technologies, and anti-aircraft weapons to neutralize aerial threats. Additionally, Ukraine has proposed exchanging its drone interceptors for more sophisticated air defense missiles already used by Gulf nations to target Iranian drones. This partnership illustrates Ukraine's strategic expansion beyond its borders in military operations, especially as regional tensions continue to escalate due to drone warfare.
