During a recent prisoner exchange between Ukraine and Russia, forensic experts in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, made a shocking discovery: an unexploded grenade was found inside the body of a soldier returned from captivity. Viktor Batyshynskyi, head of the Chernivtsi forensic office, reported that this is not the first time weapons have been discovered in deceased soldiers returned from Russia; however, finding a grenade embedded within the body raises serious safety concerns.

Batyshynskyi explained that the grenade was inserted into the soldier's body through an opening in the lower body and had traveled up to the right thigh. The gruesome discovery was made during a routine autopsy when the forensic expert began examining the head and chest cavities before moving to the limbs. The incident highlights a troubling trend where dangerous items may be concealed within the remains of returned soldiers, prompting fears for the safety of medical and forensic personnel.

Following the discovery of the grenade, the morgue staff were evacuated as a precaution, and a bomb squad was called to the scene. The grenade was safely removed and detonated in a controlled explosion at a training ground.
