Democrats deliver stunning flip in New Hampshire special election
A Democrat has flipped a Republican district in New Hampshire during a special election, marking a significant win ahead of the midterms.
In a remarkable turn of events, Democrat Bobbi Boudman won a special election for a state house seat in New Hampshire, flipping a Republican-held district that had previously favored Donald Trump. This victory is not isolated; it forms part of a broader trend where Democrats have marked 28 upsetting wins across various states, indicating a potential blue wave as the midterm elections approach. Boudman's win came against Republican Dale Fincher in Carroll County's district 7, an area previously represented by Glenn Cordelli, who resigned and prompted the special election.
Boudman's success at the polls is particularly noteworthy as she had previously campaigned for the same seat on two occasions, losing to Cordelli by a substantial margin. This time, however, she secured about 52% of the vote, demonstrating a significant shift in voter sentiment in the district. Spokesperson Marissa Hebert highlighted the drastic reversal, mentioning that Boudman had lost to Cordelli by more than 13 points in the prior election cycle, indicating a significant turnaround that could resonate nationally.
National Democratic leaders are keen to capitalize on Boudman’s victory, framing it as evidence of a larger movement toward Democratic candidates in traditionally red or battleground districts. This election not only suggests a growing enthusiasm among Democratic voters but also poses a challenge for the Republican Party as they prepare for the upcoming midterms, potentially reshaping the political landscape in New Hampshire and beyond.
