'Sometimes flying kisses, sometimes winking...', Amit Shah targets Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha
In a heated Lok Sabha session, Indian Home Minister Amit Shah criticized Rahul Gandhi's conduct and absence, dismissing opposition allegations with statistical arguments.
During a tumultuous session in the Lok Sabha, Home Minister Amit Shah launched a fierce attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, questioning his behavior and frequent absences from parliamentary discussions. This occurred against the backdrop of a no-confidence motion against Speaker Om Birla, which was overwhelmingly rejected. Shah specifically cited the discrepancy in speaking time allotted to Congress compared to the BJP, suggesting that the accusations of bias were unfounded.
Shah provided statistics indicating that the Speaker had granted Congress significantly more speaking time than proportionate to their number of seats. He mentioned that during the 17th Lok Sabha, with 52 Congress MPs, the party was allowed to talk for over 157 hours, six times more than the BJP. In the current Lok Sabha, despite having 99 members, Congress has spoken for 78 hours, still more than the BJP. This focus on speaking time served to counter the opposition's claims of unfair treatment in the parliamentary discourse.
The remarks also highlighted a broader political strategy as Shah questioned why Rahul Gandhi was often absent when discussions were pertinent, deriding the implications of such behavior in leadership. The discourse not only underscores internal party dynamics within the Indian political arena but also reflects ongoing tensions between the ruling party and the opposition, especially in a charged electoral landscape that demands accountability and engagement.
