SNCF: More than 640,000 train tickets purchased in four hours this Wednesday at the start of summer sales
The SNCF reported a strong interest in summer train travel with over 640,000 tickets sold within four hours of opening sales.
This Wednesday, the French railway company SNCF launched its summer train ticket sales, allowing travelers to book TGV and Ouigo tickets for journeys from July to early December. Within the initial four-hour window after sales opened, over 640,000 tickets were purchased through SNCF Connect, showcasing a 4% increase in demand compared to the previous year's opening sales.
The high volume of ticket sales highlights a strong enthusiasm among the French population for summer travel, particularly towards coastal destinations. The SNCF noted that the substantial traffic on their platform during this period signals a broader trend in post-pandemic travel where citizens are eager to explore and vacation after restrictions have eased.
While many tickets were sold directly through SNCF Connect, the company pointed out that these figures do not account for additional sales made through third-party platforms like Kombo and Trainline. This surge in ticket purchases reflects the ongoing recovery of the travel sector in France, driven by both increased consumer confidence and a desire for leisure travel.
