Minor Received a Driving License - Four Hours Later It Was Already Revoked
A 17-year-old driver in Finland lost their newly issued driving license just four hours after obtaining it due to reckless driving, as they were caught speeding at over 170 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.
The incident occurred on a Tuesday afternoon when West Uusimaa police were patrolling the Turunkatu highway. A video released by the police shows a car illegally overtaking a truck and subsequently maintaining a speed far exceeding the speed limit. Although the exact speed of the reckless driver is not disclosed, the police had to accelerate to keep pace with them, reaching speeds of up to 170 km/h in a designated 100 km/h zone. Fortunately, there was minimal traffic at the time, which helped prevent any accidents.
Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered that the driver was a 17-year-old who had only received their driverโs license four hours prior on a conditional basis. The police highlighted the severity of the situation, emphasizing that such reckless driving is not a safe way to start a driving career, as road traffic accidents already claim numerous lives and cause injuries. In this case, although no one was harmed, the young driver faced significant consequences, losing their license and incurring fines for their behavior.
This incident also brings attention to the changes made to driving license laws in 2018, which are aimed at promoting road safety and establishing stricter regulations for new drivers. The police are using this case as a cautionary tale to reinforce safe driving practices among all motorists, particularly newly licensed drivers who may not fully understand the risks associated with reckless driving.
