Ukrainians shot down a Shahed that was made into a small drone 'mother ship'

Ukrainian forces reportedly shot down a drone carrying two smaller FPV drones, signifying a new tactic in Russian drone warfare.

On March 10, the Darknode Anti-Shahed battalion, part of Ukraine's 412th unmanned systems brigade, announced a remarkable operation targeting a Geran-2 drone, which is Russia's designation for the notorious Iranian Shahed-136 kamikaze drone. This particular instance, however, was not merely a suicide drone aimed at a direct target; it represented a more complex threat.

Upon the destruction of the target, it was revealed that the drone was equipped with two FPV (first-person view) drones that could be remotely piloted using video feeds. This finding suggests a significant evolution in Russian drone tactics, where long-range strike drones are now being utilized as platforms for the delivery of smaller, precision weapons, enhancing both range and accuracy in attacks.

This development raises concerns about the future of aerial warfare in the region, as such tactics could lead to an increase in the effectiveness of drone operations. The capability to deploy smaller drones from a larger platform may pose additional challenges for Ukrainian air defense and could alter the dynamics of drone warfare significantly in ongoing and future conflicts.
