Signatory A. Norvilas encourages the Prime Minister to take initiative to honor the memory of Vytautas the Great
A. Norvilas has urged the Lithuanian Prime Minister to set up a working group to initiate plans for memorials honoring Vytautas the Great.
During a speech at the Seimas commemorating Independence Day, A. Norvilas called on the Prime Minister of Lithuania to establish a small, empowered working group to undertake preparatory work for memorials dedicated to Vytautas the Great in Vilnius and Trakai. He emphasized the importance of selecting appropriate locations for these memorials and preparing for the restoration and reconstruction of the Upper Castle in Trakai. Norvilas believes that these efforts should be led directly by the Prime Minister to ensure their timely execution.
Norvilas also highlighted that 2029 will mark the 600th anniversary of the historical Union of Lutsk, which represents a unique opportunity to gather leaders from neighboring countries and around the world in Vilnius. He stressed that marking this date appropriately will be vital for Lithuania's international image and presence. The prominent role of Vytautas the Great in history offers Lithuania a chance to refresh its current foreign policy paradigm, encouraging a strong, peaceful, and neighborly approach to international relations.
In conclusion, Norvilas called for collective effort and clear commitments from the government to recognize the historical significance of Vytautas the Great properly. He believes that through these initiatives, Lithuania can show strength and goodwill on the international stage, fostering a spirit of unity among nations while honoring its rich historical legacy.
