Search for Stolen Phone: "Only then did I realize: What I am doing is not harmless"

Yassine Münker from Aachen shares his experience of retrieving his stolen phone during a trip to Africa, highlighting the dangers he faced.

During a recent trip to Africa, Yassine Münker, a resident of Aachen, had his phone stolen while he was in Dakar, Senegal. Frustrated by the loss, he created a humorous Instagram video about the incident, which went viral and motivated him to take action to retrieve his phone. In an interview, he reflected on the unexpected risks involved in his quest to recover it.

Earlier this year, Münker participated in a social project in a remote village named Chagar Gadel in Mauritania, where he and six friends installed a solar power system. This initiative was funded through donations from his company, MALYA GmbH, and other businesses, allowing the villagers to access electricity and clean water for the first time. The project underscores the importance of community support and sustainable development in such areas.

After completing the project, Münker and his friends traveled to Dakar, where he lost his phone on the last night of their stay. Feeling careless after enjoying a few drinks, Münker realized his phone had been stolen when he returned to his accommodation in a taxi. His experience sheds light on the broader issues of theft and personal safety, particularly for travelers in unfamiliar locations, and raises awareness about the precautions necessary when engaging in social and adventurous undertakings in foreign countries.
