Nitesh Kumar, originally from the village of Ramsinghpura in Mundawar, Rajasthan, tragically lost his life while serving in the Indian Army in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. His mortal remains returned to his hometown on Tuesday, engendering overwhelming sorrow in the community as a large crowd of villagers, representatives, and youths gathered to pay their last respects. The atmosphere was filled with patriotic chants, reflecting the deep sense of loss felt by all present.
Nitesh joined the Army in 2017 and had married in 2021, leaving behind a four-year-old son. His family includes two brothers, with one also serving in the Army and the other engaged in farming. Their father, Abhay Singh, is a former soldier, underscoring a family legacy of military service. Such sacrifices are common in India, where many families have a history of serving in the armed forces, solidifying the deep-rooted connection to nationalism.
On March 8, while stationed at a transit camp in Gulmarg, Nitesh suffered a fatal accident when he slipped during a climb, leading to fatal chest injuries. Though fellow soldiers rushed him to a military hospital, he was pronounced dead. His untimely death serves as a painful reminder of the dangers faced by soldiers in the line of duty, eliciting strong emotions across his village as they honor his bravery and sacrifice for the nation.
