Police Officer Punished for Shaking 3-Month-Old Son, Other Officers Punished for Theft and Filming

A police sergeant in Osaka was suspended for three months after being accused of injuring his 3-month-old son, alongside punishments for other officers involved in theft and filming illicit videos.

The Osaka Prefectural Police announced on October 11 that a 28-year-old police sergeant from the Toyonaka Police Station has been suspended for three months due to allegations of shaking his 3-month-old son, which resulted in injuries. The sergeant had previously been reported by the Hyogo Prefectural Police in November last year on charges of injury, which led to his indictment. During interrogation, he reportedly stated that he became anxious when his son would not stop crying. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred in July last year when he allegedly shook the infant, causing acute subdural hematoma and other injuries, although the full extent of the healing remains unspecified.
