If you bought this sausage - hurry to return it: the retailer found a dangerous bacterium
A Lithuanian retailer has recalled a batch of sausage due to the detection of a dangerous bacterium, urging customers to return the product by March 31, 2026.
In Lithuania, the retailer Norfa has issued a recall for a batch of Anytos sausage after a dangerous bacterium, Listeria monocytogenes, was detected. According to Norfa's representative, Darius Ryliškis, the recall was initiated based on directives from the State Food and Veterinary Service, and the entire batch of the 300 g sausages, which is safe to consume until April 16, 2023, has been obtained for disposal.
Customers have been advised to return the affected products to the Norfa stores where they were purchased by March 31, 2026. The retailer will refund customers who present the purchase receipt; if the receipt is lost, refunds can still be processed by presenting the sausages along with an identification document. Information regarding the recall has been made available on store notice boards and the Norfa website, ensuring that customers are aware of the situation.
Listeriosis, caused by the Listeria monocytogenes bacterium, is a serious bacterial infection that can affect both humans and animals. It underscores the importance of food safety and the rapid action required from retailers and health authorities when foodborne pathogens are identified, to prevent potential outbreaks and ensure public health.
