In February, Estonia registered 654 births, with 'Maria,' 'Nora,' and 'Saara' being the most popular names for girls and 'Sebastian,' 'Hugo,' and 'Oliver' for boys.
According to data from the Estonian Ministry of the Interior, a total of 654 births were registered in Estonia in February, comprising 330 boys and 324 girls. This marks a slight decrease from February of the previous year, which saw 662 registered births. The birth registrations included 12 sets of twins, consisting of two pairs of boys, three pairs of girls, and seven mixed pairs. The distribution of births across counties shows significant activity in Tallinn with 215 births, followed by Harju County with 109 births. Other regions reported far fewer births, reflecting the dynamics of population changes throughout the country.
In terms of baby names, the most popular names for girls were 'Maria' with 10 registrations, followed by 'Nora' with 8 and 'Saara' with 7. For boys, 'Sebastian' led with 9 registrations, followed closely by 'Hugo' and 'Oliver' with 7 each. This trend in naming suggests a blend of traditional and contemporary influences among new parents in Estonia, as some names maintain long-standing popularity while others reflect newer cultural trends.
Additionally, the month saw 283 marriages and 191 divorces, which also reflects social trends within the country. The marriage figures show a decrease compared to the previous year's February when 311 marriages were noted, while the divorce rate has also increased from 264 in the previous year.
