Night swimmers transform Vila Velha beach into a collective training ground in the sea: 'incredible experience,' says participant
A group of night swimmers meets every Wednesday evening at Vila Velha beach in Brazil for a unique combination of running and swimming exercises.
As night falls over Curva da Sereia in Vila Velha, the beach scene shifts dramatically from daytime tourists to a gathering of enthusiastic night swimmers. This collective activity, known as the 'Nadadores Noturnos,' takes place every Wednesday evening and provides a unique opportunity for physical exercise by blending beach running with ocean swimming. Participants are immersed in a circuit that consists of 300 meters of running on the sand followed by 300 meters of swimming in the sea, repeated four times for a total of 2,400 meters of exercise.
The idea for this community initiative was sparked in February 2025 by Ana Paula Polez, an administrator who, alongside friends Giovana and Ana Paula, found it challenging to coordinate swimming sessions during the day due to busy schedules. The result was the creation of the Nadadores Noturnos, where not only do they manage to exercise regularly, but they also foster camaraderie and friendship through their shared love of swimming in the ocean at night. This innovative approach not only promotes fitness but also revitalizes the beach environment, turning it into a vibrant community hub.
As noted by a participant, the experience is described as 'incredible,' highlighting the adventurous spirit and the sense of community that the night swim training fosters. The activity reflects a growing trend where outdoor exercise and social connections blend, offering locals a refreshing way to engage with both the natural world and their community. This local phenomenon has caught the attention of beachgoers and residents alike, perhaps encouraging similar initiatives elsewhere in Brazil.
