After Neighbor Complaints and Insecurity: Residents from Controversial Housing Must be Moved
At least eight residents will be relocated from the Granvej social psychiatric housing in Bagsværd due to ongoing complaints about safety from local residents.
At a recent meeting, the social mayor of Copenhagen, Karina Vestergård Madsen, along with Gladsaxe's mayor, Serdal Benli, reached an agreement to move at least eight residents away from the Granvej social psychiatric housing facility located in Bagsværd. This decision comes in response to escalating complaints from people living in the area regarding harassment, thefts, and other unsafe incidents attributed to residents of the housing facility, which is owned by the City of Copenhagen but situated in the Gladsaxe Municipality. These issues have caused significant distress among the local population, prompting the municipalities to take action.
In a recent report from TV2 Kosmopol, it was revealed that several residents at Granvej have been convicted of serious crimes. This revelation contradicts earlier statements from the City of Copenhagen that indicated the residents engaged only in less severe offenses. Consequently, the Copenhagen municipality has decided to alter the resident composition at Granvej, ensuring that new admissions will not include individuals with active substance use or behaviors that may create insecurity in the local community.
The two municipalities plan to present new initiatives to the public at a town hall meeting scheduled for April 16. This gathering aims to inform residents about the upcoming changes and potentially alleviate their concerns regarding safety and community well-being. The situation underscores the complexities involved in managing social services while balancing community safety and welfare.
