'Stay out of Victoria's Secret': Teacher barred after sending money to former pupils

A geography teacher in the UK has been barred from teaching after sending money and fast food to former and current students.

Roger Towersey, a geography teacher at Ditton Park Academy, has been barred from the teaching profession due to inappropriate behaviors involving students. He sent £500 to a former pupil along with multiple social media messages, indicating a breach of professional boundaries. Additionally, he admitted to purchasing around £1,000 worth of fast food for vulnerable students, complicating his role as an educator.

The Teaching Regulation Agency (TRA) panel reviewed Towersey's case and found that his actions, including spending time alone with students and allowing them access to the school after hours, reflected a severe lapse in professional conduct. This behaviour raises concerns about the safeguarding and welfare of the students involved. The actions contradicted the expectations set for educators, leading to his disqualification from teaching.

This case highlights the importance of maintaining appropriate boundaries between teachers and students and serves as a cautionary tale for educators. The TRA emphasized that such behavior not only jeopardizes the trust placed in teachers but can also significantly affect the students' well-being and safety.
