A second ship was hit in the Strait of Hormuz - The crew evacuates the vessel
A second cargo ship was struck in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting an evacuation of its crew due to an unknown projectile.
According to British sources, a second cargo vessel was reported hit in the Strait of Hormuz, as stated by the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which operates under the Ministry of Defence. The incident occurred approximately 11 nautical miles north of Oman, leading to a fire onboard the ship and prompting the crew to evacuate. Assistance has been requested by the vessel after sustaining damage from an unknown projectile.
Earlier on the same day, UKMTO had registered another attack on a container ship approximately 25 nautical miles northwest of the United Arab Emirates, close to the Strait of Hormuz. The captain of the container ship reported damage potentially caused by an unidentified projectile, which raises concerns about maritime safety in the region. The UKMTO confirmed that there were no casualties, with the captain assuring that all crew members were safe.
These incidents highlight the increased risks faced by commercial shipping in this strategically vital waterway, particularly amidst heightened tensions in the region. The recurring nature of such attacks raises alarms over broader safety and security implications for international shipping routes, necessitating monitoring and potential responses from maritime authorities and governments.
